iBelieve.com: What's up everyone! We are ready to begin! Please join me in prayer!
Father, thank you for this time to talk with our brothers in Christ in dc Talk. Thank you for the day, for our life, for everything you provide. Take care of us during this time and afterwards and thank you for iBelieve.com! Amen!
The first question is on the way…
dc Talk:
Hey everyone it's Michael and Toby! T-Mac up in his joint! Thank you for everyone
coming out tonight.
JessicaP: How did E.R.A.C.E. start?
Toby: E.R.A.C.E really began out of our friendship (Michael and I) hanging out together traveling around the nation and realizing that people didn't quite understand a black and white guy hanging out and creating art together. What seemed natural to us, seemed foreign to many in our travels. That's when we decided to begin the foundation, to show people that we can work together and be successful
ManO: Tait, how can I make a donation to E.R.A.C.E?
dc Talk: Tait: Well financial donations are always acceptable. Check out our website at http://www.erace.com.
cosmoindustries: In what way can we be apart of the E.R.A.C.E. foundation personally?
dc Talk: You can personally donate yourself to the cause and eliminate racism by crossing your comfort zones and leaving all fears behind. We also ask that you please pray for us and get to know others of different colors.
Jwh626: What does E.R.A.C.E stand for?
dc Talk: Eliminating Racism and Creating Equality. It's more than just black and white, it's all nationalities.
intodctalk: Where is E.R.A.C.E. going in the future such as accomplishments to come?
dc Talk: Well, we just hired our first full time employee. His job will be brainstorming ideas, and really just finding tangible ways to affect our society and immediate region like Nashville. It has been difficult to put our arms around such a huge issue. Raising money, something that we have never had to do in the past, is not easy. We are being educated daily.
soccer: What type of groups benefit from the funds raised at E.R.A.C.E.?
dc Talk: Tait: Mankind and humankind.
Toby: I agree but also reaching out to minorities and unprivileged groups. Spreading love...and that's what Christ is all about. He is our greatest example for the foundation.
iBelieve.com: Alright, well for more on E.R.A.C.E. check out the site at http://www.erace.com. Keep those questions coming!
DANESSA: Hey guys, I'd heard some rumors that you were breaking up the band, is this true?
dc Talk: Tait: dc Talk is NOT breaking up, dc Talk is taking a break! After a decade of being together, 1000's of concerts later, 1000's of photo shoots later, and much time spent on a little tour bus a vacation from eachother would be nice!
Hope4kids: How long is your break planned to be?
dc Talk: Toby: Probably 2 years or so. We are in solo records right now and we'll have to tour and support those so we are not 100% how long the break will be. We are encouraging eachother on our solo efforts, writing together, and listening to eachother's demos and still very much a part of eachother's lives and artistic lives. "It still feels like family even in solo endeavors."
superJESUSfreak87: What happened to Kevin? I know we have been seeing just you two but where did he go?
dc Talk: Tait: Kevin has been on the road with his wife doing shows at churches and stuff.
Toby: Michael and I have been working on songs, but Kevin has chosen to do a lot of shows in the last 8 months...something Michael and I have chosen not to do.
Tait: Toby and I have also been promoting The Jesus Freak Book!
cosmoindustries: Can give us more information on those solo records?
dc Talk: Tait: We are working feverishly and diligently.
Toby: I've heard both Michael and Kevin's demos and I just can not wait to experience the ride...truly.
bright_blue_eyes: When do the solo albums come out?
dc Talk: Excitement is riding high and we're looking at a spring releases.
Toby: Mike and Kevin are at war with solo records...haha! I'm still one of the spies that is just watching the territory. I have been working with Gotee Records a lot which has taken my time. Check out Relient K, Jon Reuben and dj Maj who are all new artists that I am working with. It's hard work so my album is a would-be, could-be, maybe solo record.
fanatic: What kind of music will you be doing on your solo record?
dc Talk: Tait: It's as diverse as dcTalk's music but different. Pop/Rock based, but a little left. It's hard to put it in the box.
Toby: Tait's working so hard they had to hold him behind a little bit.
Hope4kids: Do all of you write music and lyrics or do you need others to help you on these solo records?
dc Talk: Toby: Part of the reason we are doing solo records is because it has been a dream so long. It's a way for us to express not selfishly but solo because things we have wanted to do so long we can't do in a group setting. It's like being yourself with a lot of creativity that has been trapped inside you. We have had a lot of things that we have wanted to express through art but would not work in a dc Talk format. A group is compromise. A solo record is total creative outpouring. Both are fulfilling but there is a lot of stuff inside of us that no one has seen.
People want to look at the solo records as division but we look at it as diversity. Division is separating but diversity is beautiful. People want to make it ugly but I think it's beautiful.
kearn86: Are any of you going mainstream?
dc Talk: Tait: I am a Christian and I'm making a record and I really want to convey in my heart what happens to me day to day and to share my faith with others. If pop radio likes that...I'm with it! Period.
Toby: I am a passionate follower of Jesus and I want my record to reflect my life. That's a life in pursuit of faith and holiness.
Nick_Ladish1: Will your solo records be released under Forefront or Gotee records?
dc Talk: Tait: Contractually, dc Talk and Toby, Michael and Kevin are signed to Virgin and ForeFront.
WorldChanger2002: Will you have a "sequel" to Jesus Freaks the book?
dc Talk: Tait: We are talking about it.
Toby: The chances are great!
Tait: We are throwing ideas around about it, yeah.
Adriel: Who's idea was the book "Jesus Freak?"
dc Talk:
Toby: It was really just friends of ours and ourselves talking about opportunities
and reflecting on the first time we have ever read Fox's Book Of Martyrs.
iBelieve.com: Check out Jesus Freaks by dc Talk by clicking here.
And click here
to read the first chapter from the book.
Superchick: What does the song "Red Letters" mean?
dc Talk: Toby: Talking about the words that Jesus spoke when he was walking on the earth as recorded in the Bible...certain Bibles have the words that Jesus spoke printed in red and that was the inspiration for that song.
Jesus Freak3: Did you mean for the little "tinkling" noise at the beginning of "Red Letters" to sound like hammers hitting nails?
dc Talk:Tait: No, but if that is what you hear...that's cool!
Toby: Supernatural things happen in the studio but that was a guitar amp.
fearless4u: What are your favorite videos?
dc Talk: Tait: Consume Me, Between You and Me, and Jesus Freak.
Toby: Colored People and My Friend So Long.
KristenLeigh: At the end of the "Between You and Me" video..what is in the box?
dc Talk: Tait: nada...
Toby: But we don't want to ruin your dreams so whatever you want it to be it is!
Tait: Exactly!
Joanna_Loves_KMax: Toby is you hair naturally that curly?
dc Talk: Toby: Unfortunately and fortunately yes. At certain lengths it is a curse, and Michael's is naturally straight but he gets a perm!
Tait: Yeah they'll believe that one!
dcTFreak21: I want to get "dc Talk" tatooed on my arm, can you guys give me a good reason not to?
dc Talk: Tait: You might regret it when your 55!
Toby: If you must, I suggest you buy the Free At Last record, and take the art symbol of the eyeball with a cross in it.
Tait: and then get etched in Chinese character Jesus Freak under that.
taitfan: Toby, How's your little man Truett?
dc Talk: Toby: He's cool like that! He is my favorite little boy on the planet.
Linds122: Does dc Talk really mean Decent Christian Talk?
dc Talk: Toby: It has become a multi-meaning name. Originally it meant that Tait and I were from Washington DC, and when Kevin joined the group...we stuck with the name and found other meanings for it...one being Decent Christian Talk.
butterfly 1: Hey dc Talk, do you still "love rap music"?
dc Talk: Toby: I do...yes.
Tait: The jury is still out.
iBelieve.com: Last Question!!!!
fearless4u: How does it make you feel when peoples lives are touched by your ministry?
dc Talk: Tait: That to me is the biggest payoff...Grammy awards and selling records are nice, they are truly earthly treasures that will not be transported to heaven.
Toby: It makes leaving my wife and 19 month old punk behind...it makes it worth it and it is why I truly continue doing dc Talk. It's what makes me get up and go ok!
And last but not least...please pray for Tait and send donations for an iMac computer because he does not own a computer and can not enjoy the world of tech!
www.iBelieve Michael can enter the new millinium.com! Please chant it with me! HAHA
iBelieve.com: HAHA! Any last words guys?
dc Talk: Tait: Thank you so much for caring and your support and for joining us tonight!
Toby: Thanks for showing us love...thanks for hanging with our artistic endeavors and transitions. We're going to keep it on the rizeal...we're audi 5000! We got nuttin but love for ya baby!
