Before his Cornerstone performance Kevin Max stated in a press conference that he would no longer book solo shows at Christian Music festivals, instead he plans to reach out to the gay community and other audiences who have been left behind by the church. This is an interesting choice on Kevin's part and it should be interesting to see how others react to his decision. Kevin will continue to play throughout Europe over the summer, check out his website KevinMax.com for the tour dates.

06/21/02 "To The Max" Featured in the Weekend section of today's Tennessean: To the Max—Christian music with an earthy touch...
Those who criticize Christian music as samey or saccharine would do well to check out Kevin Max's 2001 inventive solo debut, Stereotype Be. The guy brought Adrian Belew (David Bowie, The Bears) in to produce and play guitar, creating an experimental atmosphere well-suited to Max's songs. A member of dc Talk, Max possesses a one-of-a-kind voice and an attitude that separates him from many of his Christian industry peers (he'll drink a beer every now and then!) Max plays tonight at Exit/In, headlining a bill that includes Bullets of Orange and The Benjamin Gate. — Peter Cooper, Staff Writer I'll be there [this is Jessica, the Nashville webmaster] taking notes and pictures and will bring you a full report on this show as well as KMax's earlier Nashville show at SlowBar.

06/12/02 Three New Solo Singles! Forefront Records has recently released two new solo singles to CHR radio: "Irene" from tobyMac's Momentum and "You", the hidden track from Kevin Max's Stereotype-BE. According to a flyer shipped with the radio singles, Forefront is billing the simultaneous releases as the "Battle of the 2 DC TALK solo projects - let your listeners be the judge. Which tune is THEIR favorite?" This is kind of funny, in my opinion, building up steam for the two songs by marketing them against each other, nonetheless it's two good songs added to radio. Call your local Christian station and request BOTH just to confuse them. While you're at it, call your local rock station too since Forefront has also released "What's Going Down" to rock radio recently, more evidence of their faith in the crossover ability of tobyMac's album.

05/17/02 Some Stereotypical KMAX News! Just checked out Kevin's official site and he's got some stuff he wants to share! Firstly that coming in June Kevin will be sharing behind the scenes footage from the Stereotype Be Sessions. Check that out in June.
Furthermore, it looks like Kevin's been hanging out with European pop sensation Robie Williams! The one song I can remember Williams singing was the very Bond-esuqe Millenium. Kevin says he has been talking to Williams about writing together and also says Williams may even make a special appearance at Kevin's show at the El Rey theater, next weekend.
Finally it looks as if Kevin wants to be a Beach Boy... In a matter of speaking. According to his site Kevin and members of his Extravanganza band recently recorded a cover of "Help Me Rhonda" to be featured on an upcoming tribute album to Brian Wilson (one of the original Beach Boys).

05/05/02 tobyMac Rocks the River (with review) The masses at Nashville River Stages, an outdoor weekend-long festival, were especially blessed Saturday evening by the performance of one tobyMac. The sun was still shining when he took the stage since he had been moved up in the schedule, positioned before Garbage instead of No Doubt. Nevertheless, there was a huge crowd gathered with one of our own webmasters in the midst. Plus, two very special guests appeared to sing "In the Light" and "Jesus Freak" with Toby. Read the review and check back later this week for pictures in the concert gallery.

04/25/02 Dove Awards It's Toby's night! He picked up awards in three categories tonight, for Producer of the Year, Rap/Hip Hop/Dance Recorded Song of the Year for "Somebody's Watching," and the BIG one - Rap/Hip Hop/Dance Album of the Year - Momentum. He also performed a kickin' version of "J Train" with a little help from Kirk Franklin.
Meanwhile, Michael sang a beautiful solo on "In God We Trust," and he gave Toby's performance quite the entertaining intro. Kevin Max was at the scene too, smoothly introducing Superchic(k). To top it off, Prayer of Jabez received the award for Special Event Album of the Year, a project which included songs by Michael Tait and Kevin Max. The show as a whole was interesting (if nothing else) so if you missed the live broadcast, check the PAX lineup as it will be replaying throughout the weekend.

04/24/02 Tait, Doves ... Part 3 According to an official GMA press release, Michael Tait is performing at the Dove Awards as part of the "In God We Trust" chorus (see 03/02 news). The other members of the Tait band will also be in attendance to [hopefully] accept their award during the pre-show telecast (broadcast on FamilyNet). Kevin Max had planned to perform at a Nashville club tonight, but that has been nixed, and he will instead attend the ceremonies. As previously announced, Toby is performing "J-Train" during the Pax telecast. We will post news on the winners as soon as we get it.
If you're hungry for more Tait (just Michael, that is), check out this awesome article and pic from the Sunday addition of Nashville's newspaper, The Tennessean.

04/14/02 Tait Appears in MerceMe Video MerceMe recently shot the video for their hit "I Can Only Imagine," which reflects on lost loved ones and pulls on the emotional theme of the song that describes that amazing moment when we meet our Savior, as well as reuniting with our family in Heaven. Featuring a number of familiar faces including Tammy Trent and Bill Gaither, Tait was one of the artists who chose to hold a picture of a lost loved one in the video. Tait lost his own father, Nathel Tait, to cancer in 1998. The video will be played behind Mercy Me's performance of "I Can Only Imagine" at the close of the 2002 Dove Awards which will air live on PAX TV, Thursday, April 25.

This will all take place on Memorial Day (May 27) at the Factory, a shopping center in Franklin about 20 miles south of Nashville. Our own webmaster and Franklin resident, Jessica Folkins, will be there with her notepad and camera, so check back for complete coverage.

This according to CCM magazine, Michael Tait is one of Christian Music's most intriguing singles, joining the likes of Rebecca St. James, one of the girls from Zoegirl, Danielle from Out of Eden, and some guy named Bebo Norman. Click here to see the page which asks a few questions of each single, including Tait's frontman.

01/31/02 Tait and Pete Stewart Part Ways. As reported earlier this week on Taitband.com, Pete Stewart has parted ways with Tait. He is not joining them on their current tour, with dc Talk, and is instead playing around in the studio. According to Stewart he was never planning to stay with Tait, and the guys knew that. He just wanted to help get the band started. Pete says they all parted on good terms and he might be back in the studio eventually working with the guys on their second album. On a side note I'd like to say that, personally, Pete is probably the best in the business. His guitar skills fly high above any other's in the Christian Music scene and most of the mainstream market. Hopefully this parting will result in a second Stewart album and if it does, I know I'll be down at the store buying it the day it comes out. Good luck Pete!

01/18/02 Toby Returns A Favor, Guesting On New Kirk Franklin Track Kirk Franklin has a new album dropping on February 19, and just so you all now, True MC makes a cameo on a "secret track" on the album. Kirk's new album, 'The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin' features a hidden track entitled 'Throw Your Hands Up' that has pieces of tobyMac singing, something we didn't really get a taste of on Momentum. The guys over at dcTalksolo.com have gotten their hands on a sound clip of the song, so make sure you check that out.

01/08/02 New Movie Site Is Soupernatural. Got word from Candlejump Productions that there is a new site for Kevin Max's film project, Soupernatural. The site has been totally revamped, although the content is more or less the same. Check out pictures from the trailer, bios on the stars, and the trailer itself. According to the production log, it looks like they are still in the same spot as far as financing goes, about $600,000 short. Hopefully they'll find a sponsor and be able to get this thing off the ground soon.

01/01/02 A New Year For News! The new year brings some changed to Ardent-Enthusiast, well this section at least. A new news system means more news for you. You see it's easier for us to post news now, which means up to the date news fun for all of you. Along with that comes another change. Typically the news index has been a place for all the news of the current year. This tends to make the news page a huge file to download. No more, from now on the current news page will only hold the 15 latest news pieces, with the rest overflowing onto an all new archive page, sounds great, doesn't it? Tune in for more news, as we get it, straight to you guys from ae.

01/01/02 tobyMac Featured Music On Roswell! Hey guys, I was just tuning into the show Roswell, on UPN, and I heard tobyMac's "Let's Get This Party Started." The whole song was played throughout a scene that involves three main characters at a college New Year's party. If you get the chance, tune into a rerun of the episode sometime to hear the tune. This continues a steady trend of Christian music playing on popular Teen Television shows. From Tait on Dawson's Creek, to dc Talk on Charmed. Teen TV is very friendly to the boys.
