September 12, 1999 - Raliegh, NC
8 friends of mine (Nicole, Dana, Jessica, Daniel, Josh, Amber, Jill, and Crystal) and myself (ofcourse) took a trip to the Habitat For Humanity House Party in Raleigh, NC back on September 12, and it ROCKED! dcTalk was there along with Jars of Clay, Delirious, Burlap To Cashmere, and (a surprise guest) Switchfoot. Switchfoot opened on a second stage, then Burlap and then Delirious, both on the main stage. They all played a variety of new releases from their newer projects. Jars came next and they were one of the crowd favorites. They played a number of hits like Crazy Times, Five Candles (which is my favorite), and Fade To Grey. They closed with Flood, ofcourse. After Jars, it was time for dcTalk to take the stage. Here's the run-down on their performance song by song:
Toby gave his testimony next. He shared on a variety of things from his faith to how anyone can have a personal relationship with Christ. He finished by saying something like, "I hope we'll all be ready."
Acoustic Set:
Next, dcTalk's new DJ showed off his skills by playing on his turntable some mixes of a few older hits like Heavenbound and Luv Is A Verb all mixed together. (He even though in Beck's Two Turntables And A Microphone). It was really cool because the turntable lights brightened as the he kept on playing.
Disco Set:
Then they closed the disco set with a song spotlighting Otto Price's skills on bass. I was unfamiliar with it, but it said something about never letting the music stop.
dcTalk also played Colored People somewhere in all that and ended it with Give Peace a Chance. Another song that was slipped into all of that was Love Rollercoaster. It showed off Mark Townsend's skills on the electric guitar. During different performances, Toby went crowd surfing once and Kevin jumped out into the audience. Both K-Max and Toby kept slinging bottled water on the crowd. Toby even said once during the show, "Stop the killing in schools." Another thing that was great about it was that the show brought in $48,000 for a Habitat family. The family was actually there and they looked so happy. Overall, the show was great. I just wish they'd done a few more songs like 40, So Help Me God, My Deliverer, and Godsend, but oh well. Besides that, it was an awesome show. Never let it be said that dcTalk can't rock the stage and still manage to bring the crowd a feeling that God is there and He is watching!
